Life, God and Purpose

purposeEveryone has a God-given purpose – a purpose to serve others and in doing so we magnify His Kingdom. I’ve often felt lost in my pursuit to find my purpose. Struggling to identify what my true strengths and talents are and how I could use these to serve others. Meticulously planning out what books to read, what things to look more into, what extra-curricular activities to invest my time in – all with the single hope of finding out exactly what it was I was destined to do.

But then it dawned on me, or should I say, God sent a v-log directly to my email. The moral: I can’t find my God-given purpose. I will only find what it is I think, or perhaps what I want, my purpose to be. And believe me, I have found plenty of false purposes over the years.

Proverbs 19:21: Many plans are in a man’s mind, but it is the Lord’s purpose for him that will stand. (Amplified)

Currently, I am nesting. And no I’m not expecting (a baby) but I am expecting. While my purpose is not here, it’s on its way. I can feel it. I have an insatiable urge to strengthen my relationship with God, obtain knowledge, release control, and even get rid of all the excess in my life.

It’s just a few weeks into 2014 and already I feel liberated. While all these things seem so random, they are all very connected. Making myself more available and shifting away from my logical, controlling self will only better my relationship with God. After all, there is nothing logical about believing in God and in order for God to manifest in us and allow the Holy Spirit to come into our lives; we must relinquish control and completely surrender to Him. It is then that our true purpose will reveal itself.

John 16:13: But when He, the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all Truth. For He will not speak His own message; but He will tell whatever He hears, and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come. (Amplified)

I have come to the realization that I will lose many things this year before I gain my purpose. And that I will only gain my purpose through seeking Him first.
